JEE Advanced - Joint Entrance Exam (Advanced)

JEE Advanced is conducted every year by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Admissions to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programmes (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the 23 IITs, including the Indian School of Mines (ISM) are done based on ranks obtained by candidates in JEE Advanced.



What’s New in JEE Advanced 2022?


The number of candidates to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2022 has gone up to 2,50,000 as per the decision by JAB

Another key decision is to hold the JEE Advanced exam in the United States for the first time. A JEE Advanced examination centre will be set up in the San Francisco area to serve this purpose.

The entrance test will be held in two shifts: 9 am to 12 noon and 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Candidates have to register themselves online for the computer-based entrance test. There will be two mandatory papers based on a predefined JEE Advanced syllabus released by the conducting authorities.

The JEE Advanced 2022 admit cards release date has also been postponed and new dates will be announced later. Admissions to the IITs will be through the counselling conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) based on ranks obtained by candidates in JEE Advanced.

Candidates who have cleared JEE Main will be able to apply for JEE Advanced for admission to the IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) in India. It may be noted that only the top 2.50 lakh JEE Main qualifiers will be eligible to apply for JEE Advanced. However, the total number of candidates may be a bit higher than 2.5 because of 'tied' ranks/scores in each category.

In 2019, JEE Advanced was conducted on May 27 across 155 cities in India and 6 cities abroad. The exam was held in online (computer-based test) mode in two shifts: Paper 1 (09:00 am to 12:00 pm) & Paper 2 (02:00 pm to 05:00 pm).

JEE Advanced 2022 exam eligibility entails that candidates clear Paper-1 of JEE Main 2022. Candidates who wish to take this exam have to fulfill certain criteria as fixed by JAB. The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2022 is as follows:

JEE Advanced 2022 exam eligibility entails that candidates must qualify Paper-1 of JEE Main 2022. Candidates who wish to take this exam have to fulfill certain criteria as fixed by JAB. The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced 2022 is as follows:

General category candidates (from the common merit list) –

46.5%

General EWS – 4%

OBC-NCL candidates – 27%

SC candidates – 15%

ST candidates – 7.5%

PWD candidates - Horizontal reservation of 5% in all the above categories

JEE Advanced Admission Criteria 2022

Aspirants who will qualify JEE Advanced 2022 exam have to fulfill at least one of the criteria given below for admission to bachelor’s programmes, integrated master’s programmes and dual degree programmes at IITs:

Candidates must have secured a minimum of 75% aggregate in Class 12 (or equivalent) board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PWD marks should be at least 65%

Candidates should be within category-wise top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their respective Class 12 (or equivalent) board examination.
